Some chocolate is good. Some chocolate wins awards.
And then there’s chocolate made from cacao so rare and distinctive that it almost feels mythical.
This set brings together two Gold-winning 70% dark chocolate bars, each crafted from extraordinary cacao varieties that most people will never taste in their lifetime.
Same percentage. Two completely different expressions of what “70% dark” can mean.
The First Legend: Piura’s White Cacao (Peru) from Qantu Gran Blanco Bar
(2020 Gold Academy of Chocolate)
Grown in the Piura region of Peru, this cacao is famous for its naturally pale — almost white — beans. Unlike typical cacao, which ferments into deep purple and brown tones, these beans are genetically lighter and produce chocolate that feels unexpectedly delicate and refined.
This isn’t dark chocolate that shouts.
It’s dark chocolate that unfolds.
Elegant, clean, and surprising with notes of citrus, passion fruit, and honey.
It’s the kind of bar that changes someone’s understanding of what 70% can taste like.
The Second Legend: Venezuelan Porcelana from Soma
(2015 Gold World Intl Chocolate Awards)
(2016 Gold Americas Intl Chocolate Awards)
(2017 Silver Academy of Chocolate)
Porcelana cacao is one of the rarest and most revered varieties in the world. Native to Venezuela, they secured a few bags of these precious beans from the region south of Lake Maracaibo. This bar has notes of cream, cashew, fig, grass, strawberries, coconut, honey, and orange marmalade with a very round and freakishly long flavor journey.
When handled well, Porcelana doesn’t need aggression to impress.
It’s composed. Polished. Quietly powerful.
This is the chocolate people talk about in hushed, reverent tones — and for good reason.
Why This Set Is Special
-
Both bars are Gold award winners
-
Both are made from rare, heritage cacao varieties
-
Both are 70% — but taste nothing alike
-
Both showcase how genetics and origin shape flavor
This is not a “beginner” dark chocolate set.
It’s for the curious.
The skeptical.
The “I didn’t know chocolate could do that” crowd.
If you’re trying to eat better chocolate and want to understand why sourcing matters, this is one of the clearest side-by-side comparisons you’ll ever taste.
A Note on Value
Rare cacao commands higher prices for a reason:
-
Limited production
-
Careful fermentation
-
Smaller harvests
-
Skilled makers who don’t rush the process
You’re not just tasting chocolate.
You’re tasting agricultural history.
A Quick Note on Ingredients & Shipping
I source top-quality chocolate from around the world, many of which are limited release or difficult to find outside their home country. Please see individual packaging for ingredients and allergen information. (I've used Google translate, so double check the translation if you have ingredient concerns.)
Disclaimer: These are unopened products purchased directly from the manufacturers. While I store and ship chocolate at appropriate temperatures, I do not personally guarantee the quality of each individual bar. (I typically sample the chocolate before purchasing multiple bars).
I do everything I can to ensure your chocolate arrives in great condition. If you notice any whitish discoloration, this is sugar bloom, caused by temperature or humidity changes. It may affect texture but not flavor.
Due to the sensitive nature of chocolate, all sales are final and returns are not accepted.
